This beautiful Camellia grows in my garden each year, saving its buds for the following year's showy blooms! It is one of the most beautiful things to emerge in Spring. What I love about Camellias is that each flower is different and you may have a picture-perfect bloom with the anthers and filaments protruding in the centre, or others, such as the full one depicted, have them interspersed with the petals.

I really put a lot of effort into the shiny leaves and the overall vertical composition. I have aimed to reveal all stages of growth, from the buds, opening bloom and full bloom.

The plant provides a multitude of pink and red colours, and there is a slight bluish green on the bud as it develops. The filaments and anthers were very tricky within each bloom but I felt the effort of replicating botanical detail as closely as possible is imperative to understanding the plants fully.

I can imagine this painting as a wonderful gift to someone who loves flowers perhaps a keen gardener, florist or for a wedding present. The Camellia could reside on the walls of a chic business, florist, keen gardener, or even the quarters of a manor house. Perhaps the work could fit well in the dining room, living area or study, hopefully giving light and colour to someone's day! I hope this Camellia gives the recipient as much joy as the process of being able to paint it.
